Experience

Ms. Jiménez has had a very active professional practice. She has been a lawyer at the Parliament of Costa Rica, where she has participated in the negotiation and drafting of Costa Rican legislation in the areas of international trade, banking and finance, and antitrust. Likewise, Anna Karina has worked as legislative advisor for the economics committee, the judiciary committee, and the trade committee. Her practice also includes having worked as trade, corporate and intellectual property lawyer.

Anna Karina has also been a member of the Board of Directors of an important Costa Rican bank. In addition, in 1991 she participated in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. She is a member of the Harvard Alumni Association, the Harvard Faculty Club, the Costa Rican Association of International Law (ACODI) and has participated in international seminars on trade. Among her experience, she has lived in Switzerland, Germany and Italy, where she fulfilled her studies in French, German and Italian. In addition, she has an excellent command of English.

Career

Ms. Jiménez received a Masters Degree in Public Administration, with a focus on international trade, from Harvard University (2000). She also received a Masters Degree in international trade law (Ll.M.) from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. (1993). She was a Fulbright Scholar (1992). In 1996, she participated in the Workshop on Budgeting and Finance of Harvard University. She received her “Licenciatura en Derecho” (Juris Doctor) degree from the School of Law, Universidad de Costa Rica (1992), where she was awarded the “Fernando Coto Alban” recognition, for having obtained the best grade point average in the 5 years of her studies.
