Experience

During his practice, he has advised telecommunications and power generation enterprises, companies under the Free Trade Zones regime and, financial institutions in different corporate, commercial and, financial operations.

Additionally, Bernard has led and participated in legal due diligences for the acquisition and financing of different types of companies, which includes the preparation and revision of documents in physical and virtual data rooms, the structuring of checklists and; the drafting of final reports.

He is a listed arbitrator for the International Mediation and Arbitration Centre, CIMA, of the American Chamber of Commerce in Nicaragua, AMCHAM.

Held a position as legal adviser of the Central Bank of Nicaragua, where he was part of the Nicaraguan team that negotiated the U.S.- Dominican Republic- Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA), for the Financial Services Sector. He additionally advised on Nicaragua foreign debt reduction agreements and operations, under the Highly Indebted Poor Countries’ (HIPC) Initiative.

Career

He obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) on International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center (with distinction, 2003). Holds a Juris Doctor Degree from Universidad Americana UAM (magna cum laude, 2001) and is authorized as a practicing Attorney and Notary Public by the Supreme Court of Justice of Nicaragua.
